Why guests love a photo booth: what makes it so much fun

A photo booth is fun because guests are in charge: they dress up with props, pose together with no photographer around and have a print in their hands a few seconds later. That turns taking photos into an activity people laugh about together.
A photo booth is fun because your guests do it themselves. They choose who joins them in the photo, dress up, pose together and are holding the result moments later. Nobody directs them, and that's exactly what creates the photos everyone talks about all evening.
Why do props make such a difference?
Props lower the threshold. Anyone who hesitates to pose finds it much easier with a boa round their neck or a wig on. It's immediately clear that this isn't about a beautiful photo, but a funny one.
That's why every photo booth comes as standard with a box full of props: hats, wigs, boas, glasses and paper props. That's often where the fun starts, even before the first photo. People put things on each other and egg each other on.
A few ideas to get even more out of them:
- Lay out the props where they're easy to see and within reach, so nobody has to ask for them.
- Add accessories that suit your theme or the birthday boy or girl.
- Choose a backdrop that adds to the joke. With a green screen or another backdrop, you're suddenly somewhere else entirely.
If you have special requests for backdrops or props, ask about the options when you book.
Why does a print in your hand work so well?
Because you get something from it straight away. The printer prints in about 10 seconds, so the group stays to wait and looks at the result together. That moment of laughing at each other's faces is just as much part of the experience as the photo itself.
In the packages with prints, printing is unlimited during the event, so even with more guests than expected, nobody has to hold back. If you'd like all the prints in duplicate at home after the event, for a guestbook for example, that's possible with the extra prints by post option.
The print also becomes more personal with its own layout. Our designer works text, a logo or a photo into the strip. At a wedding party, that could be a photo of the two of you, so every guest takes home a strip that clearly belongs to your day. Send us that photo by email in advance, in landscape format.
Spot a favourite afterwards that you'd love to have on paper? You receive all the photos digitally via a web link, so you can always have it printed later.
Why do people hang around the booth?
A photo booth is also a meeting place. While one group poses, the next looks on and is already planning what to do. Generations who hardly talk to each other at a party end up behind the same hat. Children get it straight away, and even people who have no affinity with technology follow the steps on the screen without any trouble.
GIFs add another layer, because a movement or a failed pose is often the funniest part. If you want the booth itself to stand out, the Mirrorbooth with animations and touch controls is a different experience, as guests pose in front of a smart photo mirror.
How do your guests share their photos?
Using a QR code, guests put their photo on their own phone and from there on their social media. This requires internet, so check this at your venue or take the internet anywhere option.
You can also make something of this as the organiser. Link your booth to a competition where the photo with the most likes and shares wins a prize. That turns it into a game that carries on after the party and sends more traffic to your own profile, which is especially interesting for businesses and associations.
Do you work in the events industry yourself?
Are you a wedding photographer, party venue operator or event agency, and do people regularly ask you about a photo booth? Then you don't need to develop one yourself. We have partnership proposals ready that benefit both sides. Get in touch with us to talk about it.
What does it mean for you as the host?
As little as possible, and that's the idea. You give us your preferred delivery and collection times and we try to stick to them. Installation takes about 15 minutes and we need one power socket nearby. During the event a member of staff is on standby, so you can simply join the party.
You can book by email, with no advance payment and up to a year ahead. Our number of booths is limited, so don't wait too long. You can read which details we need and what else is involved in how hiring a photo booth works.
